I was expecting worse. I was fully prepared for months of emptiness, of pain in my chest, of meeting people’s eyes with a vacant stare… But after a few days of being down-in-the-dumps, I found myself feeling… fine.
There’s something comforting about my own presence that I didn’t expect. A sense of ease, an aura of almost friendship. I have an entire day ahead of myself alone and the idea fills me with excitement. I get to spend it all with someone who loves me unconditionally through and through, someone who loves to do everything I do, and then I get to go out and explore a world I don’t understand and try things I have no instructions for.
When people think about spending the rest of their life with someone, it’s always about someone else. But no matter what happens, you’ll spend the rest of your life with yourself. From that very first breath to the very last, you are never truly alone.
