As I drove home after a very long workday, I looked out the window and gasped a little. The clouds were an unbelievable creamsicle yellow, and I found myself suddenly hypnotized by their glow, barely able to tear my eyes away to focus on the freeway in front of me. A plane flying low over the horizon cast a dark silhouette over the sunset, going the opposite direction to me. It was so slow it seemed to be simply floating in the air. I let the cruise control stay low as I marveled at the sight. I drank in the scene hungrily during each 5 second break I took to gaze to the west until, finally, the bright green exit sign loomed overhead and I turned off in the opposite direction onto the town’s main road, feeling a strange sense of loss for the unfathomable beauty lurking behind me.
