The stage lights dim to a low blue and the opening band strums out a slow and melancholy bass riff. The air conditioner pushes my hair away from my face, an artificial breeze in the stadium. In that pause, my heartbreak rings out loud and clear like a siren. It suddenly seizes me, pulling me under in one swift motion.
But then, the lights kick on. The crowd roars. And the pain ebbs like a wave soaking into the sand, fading away as if it was never even there.
